The communal sector in North Macedonia is facing a period of transformation. At the recent "ADKOM Days" event which took place in Ohrid, the project team joined national utility leaders to discuss how new management models can address aging infrastructure and the critical need for professional staff.

During a dedicated panel session, experts explored clustering as a solution for both technical and human resource challenges. While fragmentation currently limits the capacity of many public utility companies, inter-municipal cooperation allows for the pooling of resources. This shift is essential for creating more attractive, high-tech career paths that can draw young engineers and specialists back into the water sector.

The event highlighted that successful reform requires a balance of legal updates, financial sustainability, and local ownership. Through this continued partnership with ADKOM and the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning (MoEPP), the project is committed to building a modern workforce capable of delivering high-quality water services in line with EU standards.
